Dr Bankim Dowarah (LDS) started the Department of Dentistry at AMC&H as a Dental Wing in the early period.
Than Dr Akon Chandra Saikia (MBBS,BDS) followed him and joined as Assistant Professor on 1st
December 1965.He started the OPD segment of Dentistry at AMC&H. He served the department till May 1976 .
Dr P C Sharma joined Dentistry during the tenure of Dr A C Saikia and took charge of the department after Dr A C Saikia.
Dr P C Sharma was followed by Dr P N Sharma who than took the charge of the Department.
Prof Dr Dhiraj Kumar Talukdar(BDS,MDS) joined the department as Registrar on 21st March 91 and left the department as Associate Professor on 12th February 2011.He is now the Principal i/c of Government Dental College Dibrugarh which is attached with the Department of Dentistry of AMC&H.
Prof Dr Pronoy Kr Sarmah (BDS,MDS) joined the department of Dentistry on 9th April 2007 and retired as Professor and HOD on 31st January 2017.
From than Dr Dipanjal Saikia(BDS,MDS) is in charge of this Department as Associate Prof (i/c) till date.
It is to be noted here that the Government Dental College Dibrugarh with an initial admission strength of fifty students was started on September 2018 within the AMC&H campus.The OPD and Dental OT of the Dental College is now attached with the Department of Dentistry AMC&H.The classes and practicals of the students of Dental College and the OPD and OT patients of the Dental College are also managed jointly by faculties of Assam Medical College ,the newly appointed Govt Dental College faculties as well as by the present Dental faculties of the Department of Dentistry AMC&H.
